Professional Development Units (PDUs)
Did you know you are earning free PDUs all the time? That’s right. In fact, 15PDUs over 3 years just from working as a professional in project management (25% of the requirement) or 30 PDUs over 3 years from Self Directed Learning (over 33% of the requirement).
Other ways include…
- Serving as a speaker or instructor for project management related courses and presentations
The PDU assesses and counts approved learning. 60 PDUs are required every 3 years to maintain your PMP credential. Each professional development activity results in one PDU for one hour used performing the activity. The PDU activities may be obtained through direct participation in professional activities, giving back (i.e. free) to past, present or future practitioners or by purchasing activities to be performed on an individual basis.
To learn more about the categories, rules and limitations in obtaining PDUs in very creative ways without monetary cost, visit www.pmi.org , where you will find the PMP Credential Handbook . Go to the section on Maintaining Your Credential. Read it carefully. All sections are important. Look at PDU Categories to see the methods PDUs may be earned.
